The Ultimate Sacrifice

Brian Wood MC to Run 3,000 Miles Across America in 2027

On 10 May 2027, Brian Wood MC will take on one of the most ambitious challenges of his life: running approximately 3,000 miles across America, from Santa Monica Pier in California to Washington, D.C.

Crossing 12 states over around three months, Brian will face deserts, mountains, plains and cities in a challenge built around endurance, resilience and remembrance. But The Ultimate Sacrifice is about far more than the distance.

Every mile will be dedicated to those who made the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving their country.

3,000 Miles. 12 States. 1 Mission.

The scale of the challenge is significant, but the purpose behind it is even greater.

The Ultimate Sacrifice has been created to honour those who gave everything, raise awareness of their service and sacrifice, and generate meaningful support for the military community on both sides of the Atlantic.

Throughout the journey, Brian will be raising funds for SSAFA and Carry The Load, with an overall campaign target of £1 million to support veterans, serving personnel and military families.

For Brian, this mission continues a life shaped by military service, resilience and pushing beyond perceived limits.

A former British Soldier and Military Cross recipient, Brian has already completed a series of major endurance challenges, including cycling across America, running 35 marathons in 35 consecutive days, completing the Marathon des Sables and trekking more than 500km across the Arctic Circle. The Ultimate Sacrifice represents the next chapter.

Every Mile. Every Story. Every Screen.

The challenge will also become a three-month international media campaign, documenting the journey as it happens.

A professional videographer will travel with Brian throughout the run, capturing premium footage from across the United States. Daily campaign coverage will include social media updates, stories, reels, long-form video, interviews, podcasts and documentary content, reaching audiences in both the UK and US.

Brian's existing social platforms already have a combined audience of more than 121,000, while recent Instagram performance has generated more than 1.19 million content views.

During The Ultimate Sacrifice campaign, projections target more than:

10 million+ content views
6 million+ post views
2 million+ reel views
1.5 million+ story views
1 million+ accounts reached

This combination of endurance, authentic storytelling and international reach creates the opportunity for millions of people to engage with the mission throughout the journey.

An Opportunity to Make a Lasting Impact

The Ultimate Sacrifice has also opened a number of commercial partnership opportunities for organisations that want to align themselves with a purpose-driven campaign.

Partnership opportunities range from the Guardian Partner, as headline sponsor of The Ultimate Sacrifice, through Honour, Legacy and Remembrance partnerships.

Partners can benefit from integration across running kit, support vehicles, documentary content, social media, interviews, podcasts, the campaign website and speaking engagements.

More importantly, they become part of a campaign built around remembrance, resilience and supporting the military community.

Join The Mission

The Ultimate Sacrifice is bigger than one runner and bigger than one endurance challenge.

It is about remembering those who never made it home.

It is about supporting those who have served and the families standing beside them.

And it is about using one extraordinary journey to create a lasting impact.

Whether you donate, become a campaign partner, share the story or follow Brian's progress across America, you can play a part.

Together, we can make every mile count.
