MARATHON DES SABLES

The MARATHON DES SABLES is a foot race, open to runners and walkers, with several stages, free style, and with food self-sufficiency over a distance of about 250 Km.

Each participant must carry his/her own backpack containing food, sleeping gear and other material.

With hot temperatures and a drop-out rate of 47%, MDS will go to the history as one of the all-time toughest races on Earth.

Everyone who puts themselves on the start line of a running event can suffer injury or death. It can arise from unknown underlying medical conditions, there can be fatal accidents, and the weather can play a part.

The Marathon Des Sables is a multi-stage adventure race in one of the world’s most inhospitable climates – the Sahara desert.

The rules require you to be self-sufficient, to carry with you on your back everything except water that you need to survive. You are given a place in a tent to sleep at night, but any other equipment and food must be carried.

Brian requires sponsorship so he is able to complete in this gruelling challenge and provide much needed funding for the veteran based charity.

SPONSOR BRIAN

I am now recovered from my last challenge - “The Ultimate Sacrifice” A brutal running challenge, completing 35 marathons in 35 days in support for military veteran charity, Walking With the Wounded.

Now it’s time to take on the acclaimed “toughest foot race on Earth” - The Marathon des Sables (MdS). A seven-day, six-stage race across the demanding Moroccan Saharan desert covering over 250km of sand dunes, rocky jebels, dried river beds and salt flats - Temperatures frequently topping 50°C.

The race is self-supported, meaning I will be carrying my week's supplies throughout, including, food, clothing, sleeping bag, medical necessities, sun cream, torch and compass (to name a few).

Water is supplied but rationed, and a bivouac is provided for shelter each night. This is shared with seven other participants. An isolated race event, you complete on your own.

On this challenge I will be sharing my journey with a dedicated film crew who will be documenting my honest journey across the sand. I will, once again, be raising money for Walking With The Wounded.

Give what you can. Thank you all for the continued support.
